Major activities of the Financial Services Division include the following:
- Processing and disbursing about 6,000 payments to vendors and other entities following appropriate procedures
- Processing and disbursing about 6,000 payroll checks
- Maintaining and managing various financial record-keeping systems for the City
- Ensuring that all available City cash is deposited and invested daily
- Performing centralized purchasing for certain office products used by City departments, such as letterhead, computer paper, copy paper, printer supplies, office product maintenance contracts, and computer supplies
- Collecting and accounting for special assessment annual billings in accordance with state law and court order
- Billing, collecting, and accounting for about 8,300 single-family and 1,500 multi-family recycling tax billings
- Collecting and accounting for monthly locally imposed food and beverage, hotel/motel, utility, and telecommunications tax remittances
- Performing certain data processing and financial services for other local governments (including The Urbana Free Library, Urbana Park District, and Cunningham Township) on a cost-reimbursement basis
