Urbana's Comprehensive Plan won a Gold Award from the Illinois chapter of the American Planning Association.
2008 Metheny Comprehensive Plan Map Amendment (Ordinance No. 2008-09-115) and Rezoning (Ordinance No. 2008-09-116): In 2008, residents in the East Urbana neighborhood requested a change in the zoning of their properties and an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan. They wanted their homes to be rezoned from "Central Business" to "Residential" on the Future Land Use Map. Some also requested the rezoning of two properties from R-5 to R-3. The City Council approved these changes in 2008.

This plan aimed to enhance the greenways and trails system throughout Champaign County, focusing on growth and potential funding opportunities.
2015 Champaign County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (Ordinance No. 2015-09-100): In 2015, the City Council approved the Champaign County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identified and prioritized policies and tools to reduce risks and losses associated with natural and technical hazards.
