The Urbana Plan Commission has the power to prepare and recommend to the City Council a comprehensive plan of public improvement for the future development of the City, to prepare and recommend plans for specific improvements, to consider all amendments to the Urbana Zoning Ordinance, to consider all proposed special uses, to review subdivision plans, to review the zoning and special use cases before the Champaign County Zoning Board of Appeals that are located within one and one-half miles of the limits of the City of Urbana, to consider any proposed annexation agreement which involves any zoning classification for the property to be annexed other than that automatically provided for in Section IV-5 of the Zoning Ordinance, and to assist City officials with the direction of improvement projects within the plan. Cases heard by the Plan Commission are then forwarded to the City Council for approval.
Plan Commission Members
The Plan Commission shall consist of nine (9) members, all of whom shall reside within the city or within the territory contiguous to the city and not more than one and one-half (1½) miles beyond the corporate limits of the city and not included within any other municipality; provided, however, not more than two (2) of such members shall reside outside of the corporate limits of the city. All members of the Plan Commission shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to confirmation by City Council.

Plan Commission Meetings
Regular meetings of the Plan Commission shall be held on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 400 South Vine Street. A list of the current year's meetings is linked below.
