Fire Prevention Permits help ensure commercial businesses and other regulated properties maintain safe conditions for employees, customers, and the public. These permits support compliance with fire and life safety codes through periodic inspections that help identify hazards, verify required systems are maintained, and reduce fire risk.
New Business Owners
If you are opening a new business, you must complete a Fire Prevention Permit Application through our online Citizenserve portal. Please create an account to apply online.
Current Fire Prevention Permit Holders
If you are renewing an existing Fire Prevention Permit, or have been asked to renew a Fire Prevention Permit as part of a licensing process, your permit remains valid unless revoked by the Fire Code Official
The Urbana Fire Department sends Fire Prevention Permit renewal invoices after a required fire inspection has been completed.
To help you prepare, please review the self-inspection checklist below before your scheduled inspection. Completing this checklist may help identify and correct common fire code issues in advance, but it does not guarantee inspection approval.
