The City of Urbana has created several resources to help newly elected Urbana City Council Members navigate their responsibilities.
The Illinois Municipal League held an in-person workshop in 2021 to introduce newly elected City Council members to a variety of responsibilities and to explain many areas of law that regulate the conduct of a municipal corporation. The City Clerk and City Attorney also briefly presented on Parliamentary Procedure and Legal Concerns and FOIA, respectively.
City of Urbana department heads and staff also guided newly elected Council members through a series of presentations at regularly held Council and Committee of the Whole meetings. The presentations dealt with the most fundamental areas of our City government and are available at the links below.
